It may just be a two-hour non-stop flight from LAX to Loreto Mexico, but the short flight to the eastern side of the Baja Peninsula transports guests to an undiscovered land; one of scenic vistas, spectacular sunsets, desert landscapes, the Sierra de la Giganta mountains and the Sea of Cortez within the backdrop of “old” Mexico.
The Villa del Palmar at Islands of Loreto is a half-hour ride from the quaint town of Loreto and the Loreto International Airport. The resort feels like its own small town with a convenience store, world-class Sabila Spa, Rees-Jones designed golf course, tennis court, private beach, five pools, three restaurants, private residences and 181 suites.
THE ROOMS
Each suite is set up like an apartment, and every unit has a stunning view. The décor consists of a neutral color palate with splashes of color presented in the artwork, rugs and accessories. Rooms come complete with fully equipped kitchens, a large living area, dining area, ample-sized bathrooms with large tubs and showers and an oversized terrace to enjoy the views. The larger suites come with washer/dryers, a convenient amenity.
POOL AND THE BEACH
With five free-form multi-level swimming pools, guests can take their pick of where to relax and sun at the adults only pool, the family pool or one of the smaller pools. The mellow beach is steps away, with beach chairs, towel service and a bar area as well.
The staff is welcoming, attentive, and courteous. Guests receive wristbands instead of keys that make getting locked out of your room impossible.
DINING OPTIONS
The Market Restaurant is a casual buffet-style eatery serving up a cross between Mediterranean food, Mexican food and American cuisine. International a la carte items are also available. There is nightly entertainment. Casa Mia is set at the end of the property with mountain and ocean views and offers everything from wood-fired oven pizzas, tacos, sandwiches, salads and more. The classic fine dining restaurant is Danzante with an adjoining bar. It’s a steakhouse and seafoodrestaurant with a Mexican flare, and a large selection of Mexican wines. Devoted to fusion cuisine featuring fresh seafood and fine cuts of meat, everything we tried was a delicious culinary experience.
THE SPA
Open from 7am – 9pm daily, The Sabilla Spa is 39,000 square feet of bliss under the direction of Claudine Riemer, a woman who knows her craft. With a fully-equipped gym, fitness classes, nail salon, wet areas, sauna, spa tubs, cold water plunge and treatment rooms, the spa offers both traditional and modern treatments including aromatherapy, reflexology, hydrotherapy, facials, body scrubs and body wraps.
ACTIVITIES
With all the relaxation, it’s important to enjoy the nature of the area in and out of the water through paddle boarding, hiking, boating and fishing excursions and Scuba diving.
Whether relaxing with a glass of wine while watching the sunset, or simply enjoying dessert and a cocktail, there’s no better place to experience the warmth and view of the Islands of Loreto’s night sky than at one of the resort’s four fire pits.
