Slow Days & Surf Sounds: A Stay at Secrets Bahia Mita

There’s something wonderfully unhurried about this stretch of Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit. Secrets Bahia Mita — the adults-only side of Dreams Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort — is perched along a rugged coastline where jungle hills tumble into the Pacific. Designed by renowned Mexican architect Sordo Madaleno, the resort artfully mixes sleek contemporary lines with natural stone, wood, and lush gardens, blending effortlessly into its dramatic setting.

We stayed on the Secrets side, drawn by its calm, grown-up vibe. Mornings often started with café con leche and fresh juice at the Market Café, followed by slow walks along the sand watching pelicans skim the surf and early surfers catch gentle breaks.

Most afternoons were spent exactly how you’d hope: stretched out on a lounger by the adults-only pool, sunbathing, ordering icy margaritas, and occasionally taking walks in the ocean breeze. It was blissfully easy to lose track of time.

As the sun began its descent, everything seemed to slow down even more. We’d head to the rooftop bar to watch the sky transform in layers of fiery orange, pink, and soft purple. The sunsets here feel like an event in themselves, made even better with a craft cocktail in hand.

Evenings brought their own kind of joy. Some nights we’d indulge in sushi under lantern lights, other times it was freshly grilled seafood paired with smoky mezcal cocktails. Live music often drifted through the open-air plazas, making it easy to linger over another round or wander hand-in-hand under the stars.

One of the best parts of staying at Secrets? You get access to all the restaurants, bars, and activities across the Dreams side of the property, but always have your own peaceful adults-only sanctuary to return to. It’s the perfect balance for couples or friends who want both lively energy and quiet moments built into the same trip.

What stood out most was how personal it felt. By the second day, the staff greeted us by name, knew exactly how we liked our drinks, and seemed genuinely happy to make each stay memorable.

Secrets Bahia Mita is the kind of place where days melt together in sun-soaked simplicity, punctuated by spectacular sunsets, good food, and the gentle rhythm of vacation. If you’re after a stylish coastal escape that pairs architectural wow-factor with laid-back luxury, this slice of Nayarit is waiting.
