When traveling to or from Los Angeles International Airport, it’s refreshing to know there is an alternative hotel option besides the chains on Century Boulevard and surrounding blocks that leave little to the imagination and exhibit even less effort in their dining options.   Meeting the growing demand for contemporary accommodations in the area, the AC Hotel Los Angeles South Bay, nestled just 8 minutes from the airport in the bustling business region of El Segundo, is still far enough away to offer the experience of new restaurants, distilleries, art and the ocean, all nearby.

AC Hotel brand was designed after a European model of boutique hotels, whereby each hotel is personalized according to the surrounding area.  In this case, the 180-room hotel was built by AXIS/GFA Architecture + Design with the concept of the ACLA South Bay coming from the surrounding aviation and tech industries. Aeronautical shapes and airfoils inspired the angular and curved surfaces of the building, while its forms, lines and profiles reflect the visual imagery of flight. Silver metal panels mimic the color and movement of an airplane’s wings.

AC Lounge

Design Force designed the interior, which is also influenced by the contradiction of nature and aerospace. The space combines hues of warm neutrals, fresh grays and cool metals accented by leathery cordovan, while featuring original metal artwork and an overall sense of flight motif throughout.  Clean lines and modern furniture compose the guest rooms, highlighting functionality with everything a guest would need, including Smart-TV’s with streaming capabilities.

King View Room

The hotel is Pet-Friendly, with complimentary Wi-Fi, a fully equipped 24-hour fitness center and 24-hour access to the AC Library business center.  No matter the hour, conveniences such as mobile check-in and the AC Store stocked with snacks and other essentials, make little worries dissipate.

European Style Breakfast

A daily European-inspired breakfast spread is available every morning at the AC Kitchen.  Guests can kick start their day with a healthy breakfast that includes sweet and savory egg tarts, fresh croissants, artisan-cured meats, sliced cheese and fruit, muesli and yogurt and more.

AC Lounge Day

On the ground floor, the chic indoor/outdoor AC Lounge is an ideal spot to unwind after a day of business or fun.  This communal space works well for groups to strategize or guests to relax over a handcrafted cocktail, local craft beer and a bite.

The area’s newest hotspot is the sprawling rooftop restaurant and bar, Flora, showing off the sunny California weather, views of the city of El Segundo, planes flying in and out of LAX and the new stadium at Hollywood Park.  Landscaped with a lush patio garden, there is a living succulent wall, edible flowers, and a variety of herbs growing in the garden that are used for some of the dishes and cocktails served on premises.  Rounding off the space is an indoor lounge and granite bar with seating for 57 along with 90 outdoor seats, including community style dining along its central fire pit.
