Focus On: Rancho Pacifico Costa Rica

Aerial View

Twenty years ago, Costa Rica went on a campaign to save the little remaining rainforest it had left and try to nurture the re-growth of areas where 500-year-old trees once stood. What emerged were eco-projects.

One such project was Rancho Pacifico, whose owners built the resort with the strictest adherence to environmental common sense. Limiting the cutting of trees, each building was placed in the trees 2,000 feet above sea level with views of the Pacific Ocean on the 250-acre private rainforest preserve that shares the area with wildlife, birds, reptiles, waterfalls, and thousands of plants species.

Rancho Pacifico is located in the only part of Costa Rica where the mountains meet the sea, where both land and water adventures are within an hour of one another.

New ownership brought a reopening of the adults-only resort with new common areas and two new modern air-conditioned suites with private plunge pools.

Other features include two treehouses with outdoor soaking tubs and three full-kitchen villas with 1 bedroom, 2-bedrooms and 3 bedrooms. Sustainable teak woods from the Guanacaste coast were used for the bars, doors and countertops.

Although there is wi-fi and good cell phone coverage, Rancho Pacifico is designed for guest relaxation, rejuvenation and exploration.

Indulge in the view while dining on a gourmet breakfast; hike the trails into the rainforest; take a dip in the infinity pool, enjoy lunch before a spa treatment at their award winning Spa Tranquila; read a good book before happy hour at sunset and a dine on four-courses at dinner into the evening before a moonlight stroll to your private sanctuary.
